...The
subject of plants has historically been appropriated by artists who
are women. Mega- mother Georgia O' Keefe, and the more recent Judy
Chicago and Sharon Ellis have been influential to my work and are
strong branches of my matrilineage of artists. I find inspiration
in the fact that saturated symbolism, such as the kind plants have
acquired to this day, has importance in the changes that have come
about in this new century. The meaning of the act of painting itself
has and continues to change as does my practice. In other words, a
rose may not always be a rose... |
